Following the launch of their debut US single in April, including packed gigs in New Yorkand Las Vegas; and currently in the midst of a two-piece spectacular with Royal Blood, Polish Club today announce the Polish Club with Horns (cos why the f*ck not) tour. Australia’s pre-eminent soul-thrash guitar-drums duo expands its ranks for a triple-pronged variety show with a five-piece horn section and a double-whammy of very special guests for performances in Melbourne and Sydney this July.
“I’m a sucker for a brass ensemble or a string ensemble and one of them makes a lot more sense than the other,” says singer-guitarist Novak.
His partner JH happened to inherit a taste for big band muscle from an old friend, conservatorium-trained trombone player Benn Chapman. One phone call later, trumpet, saxes and sousaphone were inked into the equation.
Polish Club will be joined by ARIA-winning folk-pop harmony quartet All Our Exes Live in Texas on their brassed-up midwinter roadshow.
“This is gonna be fun,” adds Novak. “There’s really no other reason to do it besides us wanting to have a good time and that usually translates to the audience having a good time as well.”
You better believe it. Since the release of their ARIA award nominated and triple j feature album Alright Already starring breakout singles Come Party and Divided, the duo has performed two headline national tours in Australia, released the surprise EP Okie Dokie featuring the attention grabbing Gimme Money and joined The Preatures on a national tour.
“We haven’t done this before and we probably won’t do it again,” says Novak. “So listen, even if it’s terrible, it will be notable.”
You’ve got to love those odds.
